Programmable Motion Controllers are microprocessor or computer-based systems used to implement precise motion control. Programmable Motion Controllers is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes. In simple words, Programmable Motion Controllers can be defined: human use computer to make motion in mechanical devices. Unlike general-purpose computers, Programmable Motion Controllers is designed for multiple inputs and output arrangements. Components of a typical Programmable Motion Controllers Systems include:
- Programmable Motion Controllers (or simply Controller)
- Determines the tasks to be performed by the motors
- Sets things like speed, distance, direction, and acceleration rate
- Sends electric signals to the Drive (that's why Programmable Motion Controllers used for electromechanical process)
- Drive
- An electronic power amplifier which delivers the power to operate the motor in response to low-level control signals.
- In general, Drive will be specifically designed to operate with a particular type of motor.
- Motor
- May be a stepper motor (either rotary or linear), a DC brush motor or a brushless servo motor
